Joe Chapman baffled as West Brom denied penalty v Norwich City

West Brom earned a positive 1-1 draw against Norwich City at Carrow Road in the Championship clash on Saturday (17 September).

During the game, Grant Hanley looked to have made contact with John Swift inside the box, and it appeared as a blatant penalty, which was not given.

Joe Chapman of Birmingham Live was left stunned by the decision, as he shared his reaction on Twitter.

Chapman wrote on Twitter: “How on earth Albion haven’t got a penalty there, I’ll never know.”

Poor referring

The decision once again brings back the same stuff that fans have been saying for years, that the officiating at this level is not upto the standard.

These types of decisions happen on a weekly basis in the Championship, and it reinforces the need to introduce technology.

Had the penalty been given, West Brom had a chance to make it 2-0, and they could have won the game, which would have taken them far away from the relegation zone.

Steve Bruce is fighting for his job and he has every right to be mad about it. Every point matters, and it becomes really frustrating when the referees can’t even point out blatant penalties.

At 1-0, there was always a chance for the home side to get back into this game, and that’s what happened when they equalised.

It was a brilliant effort from the Baggies as they prevented the Canaries from winning seven games in a row. But instead of a draw, they could have won it as well.
