Chris Brunt labels testimonial clash ‘a dream come true’ after emotional moment with his son

West Brom fans turned out in the masses for Sunday’s ‘Clash of the Legends’ testimonial, and they were treated to plenty of goals.

The testimonial celebrating the careers of West Brom legends Chris Brunt and James Morrison ended in a spectacular 4-4 draw on Sunday.

Not only did Brunt manage to etch his name on to the scoresheet from the penalty spot, but his son Zak scored a dramatic last-gasp equaliser from a free-kick in what turned out to be the last kick of the game.

It was a fitting end to a brilliant event at the Hawthorns, and Brunt labelled it a “dream come true” after the full-time whistle.

“It was brilliant, it was great to see all the lads who turned up and thanks to everyone, the foundation for the work they did to make it happen it could have not gone better,” said Brunt, as quoted by the Express & Star.

“The game was decent, a bit of a laugh and competitive, and from my point of view to get my little lad on it was a dream come true, thank you to everyone who came.”

A great event

Sunday’s match was a brilliantly fitting end for the careers of two Albion legends. Between them, Brunt and Morrison amassed nearly 800 games for the Baggies.

Not only was it great to see both of them back on the turf at the Hawthorns, but the lineups were full of nostalgia for the onwatching Albion fans, with both sides being made up of stars that played alongside Brunt and Morrison during their Baggies years.

Brunt received a standing ovation in the first half calmly converting his penalty to put his side 2-1 up, but yet I doubt it was his standout moment from the match.

Instead, his son Zak stole the show (with a free-kick no less). It was a spectacular end to a great event, and it only seemed right that it ended in a draw.

Plus, having clearly inherited his dad’s set-piece taking ability, Albion fans will be hoping to see more of Zak at the Hawthorns in the near future.
