West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby wins Player of the Match in Ireland’s game against Scotland
West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby was voted Player of the Match in Ireland’s 2-1 defeat to Scotland on Saturday evening.
Molumby is a relative newcomer at the Hawthorns and finally got his chance to shine for his country after watching from the bench in previous UEFA Nations League ties.
John Eagen put Ireland ahead early in the game before, before a Jack Hendry header equalised for Scotland, Ryan Christie then stroked home a winner from the spot for Scotland in the 82 minute.

Despite the loss, Baggies midfielder Molumby was named the POTM and his accolade was announced by the Republic of Ireland’s Twitter page.
“Jayson Molumby is the Carlsberg Player of the Match for tonight’s game,” said the account.
The result leaves the Republic of Ireland without a win in their last seven away games in the competition; losing each of their last four.
Pushing on.
Molumby joined West Brom on a full-time basis after an impressive loan stint saw him make the switch from Brighton to the Baggies.
Unfortunately, his time at the club has been plagued by the team’s all-around bad performances and problems with the Baggies hierarchy.
The Irishman struggled for starts under former West Brom boss Valerien Ismael, however, he has now managed to become a consistent part of Steve Bruce’s setup.
Molumby has shown grit and determination to deliver results which has lacked so much this campaign; a shining light in an otherwise mediocre engine room.
Although, Molumby at times does play things too safe and maybe he’d be better utlised alongside more creative midfielders.
This may help Molumby’s form progress higher, he’s definitely got the ability but he’s far better at doing the midfield’s dirty work than he is creating chances for forwards.
Hopefully, this successful stint in the national team and help the 23-year-old push on for the Baggies this season.
In other West Brom news, Albion are struggling to sell tickets for a match this weekend with fewer than 10,000 sold.
