West Brom on-loan midfielder Quevin Castro terms ‘practice’ as primary reason for scoring worldie v York City

West Brom on-loan midfielder Quevin Castro has revealed he “didn’t realise” how far the freekick was when he scored against York City.

The 21-year-old scored a worldie for the Notts County from 35 yards out and helped the side secure a 3-1 win on Saturday.

Castro, while talking to Nottingham Post, revealed that he practised it in the training and was “delighted” to see it worked in the match.

“I actually didn’t realise how far out it was,” he said. “I just had my eye on the ball, struck it and it went in the back of the net and it was a fantastic feeling.

“It is just the technique I have always done, and practice makes perfect really so. I have done it at the training ground and had the chance to do it in a game and it turned out well, so I am delighted.”

Special talent

West Brom have had a season beginning to forget as, after 10 matchdays, they have only managed to secure 10 points with just one win to their name, leaving them in the drop zone, at least for now.

Looking at how the club has been run in the recent past, the Baggies have never been a name that people talked about when it comes to nurturing special talents and making them a force to be reckoned with.

But for once, they might have a player in the form of Castro who, if taken care of properly, might become one of the stars in the future.

The fans will be optimistic that the ongoing loan spell will help the 21-year-old in becoming a player of high class who can serve the side for a good part of the next decade.

In other West Brom news, Albion are struggling to sell tickets for a match this weekend with fewer than 10,000 sold.
