West Brom legend Ally Robertson says club must be in top eight by World Cup break

West Brom legend Ally Robertson believes the club must be in the top eight of the Championship by the World Cup break.

The Baggies are currently having a less than impressive campaign and are slumped in 21st position in the Championship table.

However, they have the chance to rectify this before the World Cup starts, the Baggies will have 10 fixtures between now and then and Robertson believes they can push higher.

West Brom

Speaking to the Express and Star, Robertson admitted that it would be fantastic if Steve Bruce could guide West Brom up the table before the winter World Cup break.

“His aim right now will be to get into the top eight,” said Robertson.

“But if we can get from where we are now into the top half by the break then that would be fantastic.

“I still think Brucie’s the manager, as long as we can get a couple of wins together then everything changes. It’s the same as Southgate, two years ago he was the best manager England have had, now it’s ‘you should get rid of him’.

“That is football, in football it’s your last five, six or seven games. Forget whatever went before, it’s your last games for how good your manager is.”

West Brom

Crucial.

Robertson’s optimism is nice to see, although, it may be a far cry from what the Albion can achieve in the next 10 weeks, one thing is for sure, they’ll be crucial.

Bruce’s chances of keeping his job are slim but he has the chance of a do-over with the upcoming crowded fixture schedule and he’ll be keen to put things right.

Albion have only managed one win from their opening 10 games and this is something that needs to change drastically if they are going to live up to Robertson’s hopes.

West Brom face Swansea next before a mid-week trip to Preston on Wednesday and a home fixture with Luton on Saturday week, these games will be critical.

If there’s ever a time to get your campaign back on track it’s now before a favourable World Cup break, Albion players have to give it their all in the coming weeks or face the consequences.
