West Brom manager Steve Bruce ‘convinced’ to turn around poor form

Steve Bruce is focused on helping West Brom overturn the poor run of form and is not concerned about the decisions that “other people” will make.

The 61-year-old is under increasing pressure as the Baggies are going through a horrendous start to their campaign where they have only managed one win out of the first 11 fixtures.

Bruce, while speaking to BBC WM Sport, expressed optimism about turning things around in the upcoming matches but admitted things aren’t easy.

“Change is for other people to decide,” he said. “All I can do is try and draw on my experience. I’ve had tough times before.

“There’s no doubt at all that it’s a bit difficult at the moment. How do you get on with it? That’s the most difficult part of the job.

“That’s why you try never to get too carried away when it’s going OK and now it’s important that I’m not too far the other way.

“I’ve been here many times. You have to draw on a bit of experience and a bit of resilience and if you’re going to do the job, you have to have a bit of that. Unless you are gifted like Pep (Guardiola) or Jurgen (Klopp), it’s never easy for anybody.

“Statistics tell you that over the last two-and-a-half years, results haven’t been good enough for a club of this stature – but it happens.

“We’ve been (a goal) down inside 15 minutes eight times – it’s totally ludicrous. I’m convinced we’ll turn it round. Let’s keep bashing away, defend better and see where we can go with it.”

Enough

West Brom started the campaign hoping to improve the last season’s standing where they finished in the 10th position and subsequently missed out in a bid to get promotion back to the Premier League.

However, nothing really went right this season where the Baggies have only secured 10 points from the first 11 fixtures, leaving them 21st on the points table.

Despite those results, Bruce is still in charge of the team and is likely to manage the side against a struggling opposition like Preston where West Brom might end up winning the game and take a big leap on the points table.

However, for a team that was expected to be involved in the promotion battle, it should never be acceptable at any cost for them to be languishing amongst the teams at the bottom of the table after 25% of the league matches played.

Therefore, regardless of whatever happens on Wednesday, the club’s hierarchy must get rid of Bruce and find a manager who can deliver results before it’s too late.

In other West Brom news, Albion are struggling to sell tickets for a match this weekend with fewer than 10,000 sold.
