Don Goodman slams ‘sloppy’ Jayson Molumby in West Brom clash v Preston

Don Goodman was less than impressed by Jayson Molumby’s first-half performance as struggling West Brom went in at the break a goal down to Preston North End at Deepdale.

Emil Riis scored Preston’s fourth goal of the season in the seventh minute after extremely poor defensive efforts by Steve Bruce’s players.

Molumby, 23, was singled out by ex-Albion striker Goodman for his role in Preston’s goal as he allowed Ali McCann to easily turn and pass to Álvaro Fernández, who assisted Riis’ finish.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football on Wednesday night (08:08pm) when Preston scored, Goodman said: “I don’t think anyone can deny they absolutely deserve this.

“He’s been exposed and there’s nothing Alex Palmer can do about it.

“What relief for Emil Riis, confidence will be flooding through him now.

“There’s no real engagement there [by Molumby]. That’s way too easy. Molumby allows Ali McCann to turn and what a delivery that is, it’s on the money from Fernandez.”

Not long after [08:17pm], Molumby lost possession in the middle of the pitch, leading Goodman to add: “He’s had a sloppy start to the game.”

West Brom

Woeful

Guochuan Lai can win over a lot of supporters if Steve Bruce doesn’t come back out of the tunnel at half-time because this has to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Albion are horrid.

We’ve spent that first half in the Championship’s relegation zone after conceding a goal to the worst attack in the EFL.

Preston have struggled for goals badly this season, yet it took them just seven minutes to break the deadlock against us, as well as forcing a very good save by Alex Palmer.

Molumby’s performance in the middle of the park was terrible but the likes of Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Dara O’Shea and Conor Townsend also had first-half stinkers.

Grady Diangana looks to be the only one capable of doing anything in the attack but the likes of Karlan Grant and John Swift are – as usual – off the boil.

Albion are sinking without a trace.

It feels so long ago when we were mocking Wolves for their relegation to League One.

It could happen to us if Bruce isn’t gone soon.

In other West Brom news, a finance expert says Albion have cleared debts with new documents emerging on Companies House.
