Hal Robson-Kanu takes aim at Guochuan Lai live on Sky Sports after West Brom defeat v Preston
Guochuan Lai needs to be held accountable for where West Brom are in the Championship this season, according to Hal Robson-Kanu.
Steve Bruce looks to be on the verge of being sacked after Albion dropped into the relegation zone on Wednesday night with a 1-0 defeat at Preston (6 October).
It was yet another rotten performance by the Baggies and after the game, former striker Robson-Kanu claimed Lai’s shortcomings – as well as that of Bruce and the players – have led to the club being in this position.

“It’s a massive win for Preston but the fundamentals are that West Brom, having had a season down from the Premier League, they should 100 per cent be competing to gain promotion. And on the news of tonight, they’re a million miles away from that,” said Robson-Kanu on Sky Sports Football at full-time on Wednesday night (6 October, 09:54pm).
“That’s really difficult and disappointing to see. But from a club’s perspective, players, managers and from an owner’s perspective, there needs to be some accountability there.”
Rotten to the core
From the boardroom to the playing squad, West Brom stink.
You have a so-called owner who’s taking money out of the club to prop up his businesses in Asia and missing repayment dates, a manager who’s never looked at all like being a success at the club and a playing squad that’s so stale and rancid that a promotion bid seems impossible.
We’ve been saying for years how this squad needs a major overhaul, yet there doesn’t seem as though there’s much difference between this side to the one that failed under Valerien Ismael and Bruce last season.
You still have the same underperformers, the same senior players refusing to step up and the same low-quality chancers who’d fit in way better in League One.

And right now, that’s where West Brom are heading with this owner, with his manager and with this playing squad.
Only a handful fo players can say they’ve had decent seasons so far with Jed Wallace and Grady Diangana perhaps the only ones who’ve done any good.
Something needs to change but the only change that can happen overnight is the man in the dug-out.
Bruce has to go.
But Lai needs to get his backside out of The Hawthorns quickly too because he’s the ultimate cause of his downfall.
