West Brom have ‘rancid, horrible bunch’ in dressing room – Chris Lepkowski

West Brom have found themselves in the Championship relegation zone after they fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Preston on Wednesday evening.

Emil Riis’ seventh-minute tap-in was enough to see Ryan Lowe’s side, who have now scored four goals all season, take all three points as the Baggies failed to offer any attacking threat.

Chris Lepkowski, who formerly worked at The Hawthorns, has seen enough of Steve Bruce’s Albion and took aim at several unnamed players on Twitter.

“The one thing Bruce got spot on was the need for 2 or 3 transfer windows. He’s had one,” he said. “There is still a rancid, horrible bunch in that dressing room. They’ve stunk the place out for too long. And will do for another year or two. Sad.

“Bruce targeting 9th. Nonsense. West Brom’s wage bill is 5th. QPR have 10th highest wages. They’re 4th in table, yet wage bill is £23m less than Albion. West Brom a top 5 club in terms of wage spend. Yet they’re 22nd, 3 points ahead of Cov who have 3 games in hand. Time for change…”

End of the road

Bruce will have had a long-term plan to take the club on a journey back to the Premier League but it has rather ended up as a car crash of an era.

After Valerien Ismael had this squad, or something very similar, in the playoff places there will have been hopes that Bruce could take them that one step further once he took over given his previous record of promotions to the Premier League.

West Brom

But the Papa John’s Trophy looks more likely than the Premier League right now and while Bruce is not the only problem at The Hawthorns, he is the easiest to replace.

The players in that dressing room will have to be taking extremely long looks at themselves having now failed two managers in less than one year in the second tier.

If the next manager is also an issue then maybe it’s time Ron Gourlay looked at those on the pitch rather than off it.

In other West Brom news, Carlton Palmer has weighed in on Bruce’s much-talked-about future at the club and made a surprising admission.
