Matt Phillips should pack his bags and join Steve Bruce if West Brom sack manager

West Brom welcome Luton Town to The Hawthorns this weekend with Steve Bruce knowing that another loss could see his time at the club brought to an end.

Fans have been calling for Bruce to go alongside the likes of Ron Gourlay and Guochuan Lai in a clear overhaul of the Baggies from top to bottom.

That has not happened yet, but we must also look at the squad who have been clearly underperforming compared to what they could actually do in the Championship.

West Brom

Matt Phillips summed that up completely against Preston.

Coming on late in the game, West Brom were hoping that one of their more experienced professionals could make a real difference, but he didn’t and it ended 1-0 at Deepdale.

The Scotsman was shocking on the ball with his delivery simply not good enough and often wasteful when he had plenty of time to pick anyone out in the box.

One moment that summed it up completely though was a long smash forward, which went all the way out for a goal kick when it was easy to pick passes and progress towards the box.

West Brom

There won’t be many who disagree with this at The Hawthorns.

In 16 minutes, Phillips only completed 66.7% of his passes, his third-lowest this season according to WhoScored, as he continues to stink off the bench.

If Bruce does pack his bags this week or in the near future, there are certain players who could gladly follow him out of the club, with a complete overhaul needed.

Things are not good enough right now, on the pitch, off the pitch and everywhere in general, things are getting toxic, and the only way to get rid of that is to start again in all areas.

In other West Brom news, Chris Lepkowski has scolded what he brands as a “rancid, horrible bunch” that have made the Baggies dressing room toxic.
