West Brom sent rousing ‘cheer up’ message by Peter Odemwingie

The glory days of being a Premier League team seem a long way away for West Brom fans but one of their cult heroes has sent encouragement.

Peter Odemwingie was an integral character in the Baggies’ adventures in the top flight of English football between 2010 and 2013 before he joined Cardiff City.

The Nigerian international, who at 41 years of age has now retired from professional football, scored 31 goals in 90 appearances across all competitions for Albion but is most remembered for the car park fiasco at Queens Park Rangers.

Odemwingie is now a very active member on Twitter and sent a message of encouragement to West Brom fans accompanied by a video of his goals and celebrations in navy and white stripes.

“Cheer up baggies. Glory days will be back,” he said. “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed. BOING BOING.”

With everybody’s heads on the floor after a shocking start to the season, this is the kind of thing that can make people smile around the training ground and get people enjoying themselves again.

For many of the West Brom players, it looks like football has become a chore rather than the luxury it is and Steve Bruce has failed to rectify that so far with himself consumed by the professionalism of the modern game.

Perhaps then the Baggies should be looking to let some steam off in some fashion before facing Luton Town tomorrow and it could even be the releasing of the shackles that they need.

Each and every one of them looks petrified of making a mistake and therefore opts for the safe, easy-to-defend option every time they get the ball in a promising area.

No one will ever have a go if you fancy taking on a shot and backing yourself and Bruce has to remind his players of that, as Odemwingie would.

In other West Brom news, Nigel Quashie was quick to call out the squad at The Hawthorns as pressure ramps up on Bruce in the hot seat.
