Steve Bruce ‘still convinced’ he can turn West Brom season around after poor start

Steve Bruce has once again reiterated he is the right man to solve the crisis at West Brom this season despite a horrible start to the league campaign.

The Baggies are placed in the relegation zone after 12 matchdays with just 10 points which includes a solitary win.

Those results have intensified rumours about the future of the 61-year-old who joined the club in February earlier this year.

However, Bruce, while talking to BBC Radio WM ahead of the fixture against Luton Town on Saturday, 08 October, expressed optimism that he can lead West Brom’s turnaround this season.

“Ultimately, I’m to blame, I get it,” said the former Newcastle United manager.

“But I’m still convinced we can turn it round.”

Time for change

West Brom started the campaign hoping to improve what they did last season where they finished 10th in the Championship.

Even though the Baggies did not invest heavily in the summer, they signed players with tons of experience playing in the second-tier of English football.

It was because of this reason, the general expectation from the side was to fight for promotion, especially with the likes of Jed Wallace and John Swift joining the club on free transfers.

However, it has been nothing short of a horror dream for West Brom who have looked lacklustre throughout the early phase of the campaign and are languishing amongst the bottom three sides in the competition.

Those results are just not good enough for the Baggies as a club and therefore, regardless of whatever happens on the field in Saturday’s fixture against Luton, the board must replace Bruce with someone who can make good use of the available talent.
