Middlesbrough close in on West Brom manager target and former Manchester United coach Michael Carrick

Middlesbrough are reportedly closing in on West Brom manager target and former Manchester United coach Michael Carrick.

The ex-England international did take over the first-team duties at Old Trafford after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking, but apart from that has no senior managerial experience.

The Mirror on 10 October are reporting that Carrick is close to moving to the Riverside Stadium as owner Steve Gibson is stepping up his plans to hire Chris Wilder’s successor.

He surely will be on edge now as it’s recently been reported that West Brom are also looking at Carrick after the sacking of Steve Bruce.

The Northern Echo reported that the former Champions League winner is also on the Baggies owners’ list as they look to replace their unpopular ex manager.

However, it seems like they may be too late to the races as Carrick appears to be close to joining Boro.

Had they made a decision on Bruce earlier, they would’ve had more time to sway his mind but they probably have lost the battle.

Unless they manage to change his heart at the last minute by offering him higher wages or giving him more autonomy on behind-the-scenes activities, it seems highly unlikely that Carrick will sit in the Hawthorns hot seat in the coming days.
