West Brom to rival Championship rivals in pursuit of Michael Carrick

West Brom are ready to rival Middlesbrough to make Michael Carrick their new permanent manager, according to the Northern Echo.

The Baggies sacked Steve Bruce from his role on Monday (10 October) and have now started the process of hiring a new man to lead the first team with Carrick, a Champions League winner in 2008 with Manchester United, on the list of options.

Boro, meanwhile, are further down the road in hiring a new boss having sacked Chris Wilder and have already begun preliminary talks with Carrick over taking on the role.

The 41-year-old already has some management experience under his belt have taken caretaker charge of United last season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by the Old Trafford club.

Carrick is currently viewed as a prime candidate for the vacant role at the Riverside while Wilder is on the Baggies’ radar should they not get the former England international.

Progressive

Compared to the caveman Bruce, Carrick is a modern and forward-thinking manager who has the majority of his off-field career ahead of him, not behind.

The experience might be limited to a couple of Premier League games but West Brom have been appointing men with experience for a while and it hasn’t gotten them anywhere in truth.

Maybe youthful exuberance is what is needed at The Hawthorns right now and while Carrick is only one name on the list, he could be the ideal candidate.

He is young enough to know the modern game as a player but he has a very wise head on his shoulders and you can’t see him getting flustered very easily, considering how cool he was as a player.

But to get Carrick, Albion have to barge the door down and prevent Middlesbrough from snatching him at the 11th hour or they could be left with yet another cast off from another Championship side.

In other West Brom news, Bruce was adamant to make things worse for himself as he waited for his pay-off before eventually leaving the club.
