Ron Gourlay still plans new-look West Brom board after Steve Bruce sacking
Ron Gourlay is still planning a new-look football board at West Brom after the sacking of Steve Bruce this week, according to The Athletic.
The Baggies chief is planning to bring in a new director of football administration, as well as a director of football operations, despite fans calling for his head too.
It has been reported that Gourlay appointed Bruce despite no interview process, and is coming under heavy scrutiny from everyone but those who he works alongside it seems.
Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Elias Burke shared the plans behind-the-scenes at The Hawthorns with major changes expected soon.
“Gourlay was determined to add to Albion’s boardroom, which lacked figureheads across several departments.
“Gourlay was and remains keen to bolster a new-look ‘football board’, adding to director of medical Tony Strudwick with a director of football administration and a director of football operations — serving a similar function to a technical director.
“The recruitment department, however, already has Ian Pearce as its head.”
Strange.
Football is unforgiving, but the one place there never seems to be any repercussions is the boardroom.
This latest article does not make for good reading if you are Gourlay, but yet he will still be swanning around The Hawthorns, looking to make these changes.
Nothing positive has come from that man being appointed yet, with more than just two new additions needed, a whole new-look boardroom from top to bottom sounds better.
Gourlay even reportedly considered Bruce’s position after the Birmingham game last month, so he gave him nearly an entire month longer in which we didn’t win a single game.
That is incompetence and the failure to make a decision just made things even worst despite the fans calling for it to happen for weeks on end.
It is hard to imagine anyone who would want to work under those in the boardroom right now, but thankfully the Baggies are big enough to get anyone interested.
Let’s hope we make the right decision.
