Rumours of joining West Brom to replace Steve Bruce ‘absolute rubbish’ – Roy Keane

Roy Keane has dismissed rumours of him linking with the vacant managerial position at West Brom after the sacking of Steve Bruce.

The 61-year-old was removed from his position after a horrendous start to the 2022-23 campaign which left the Baggies in the relegation zone.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the Manchester United legend expressed his eagerness to return to football management but termed those rumours of him linking with the Championship side as “absolute rubbish”.

“It’s bizarre,” he said. “The bookies do play silly games with people. No, I think I’ve been favourite for a few jobs over the past year or two. It’s all nonsense.

“The same for any speculation over the past 24 or 48 hours. Absolute rubbish. I think I can help players. I’m not going to be quick to give up what I’m doing now. I have a nice life.

“I still have that urge to go back into it. It’s hard to shake it off. I might get that opportunity again. If something happens then great, if not life goes on.”

One of the basic problems that the former Newcastle United faced during his time at The Hawthorns was his inability to bring the best out of the players who are definitely much better than the team position suggests.

Therefore, now it is the responsibility of the top-tier management to find the right candidate who can help the players to play at their maximum potential which will in return help the side in recovering from this situation.

Is Keane that man? Probably not.

In other West Brom news, Dean Ashton could not get away from the toxic feel during what turned out to be Bruce’s last game but highlighted that the poor form was not all his
