West Brom have free run at Carlos Corberan as Championship side pull out

West Brom are not rushing their search for a new manager and they might not have to after news emerged on Tuesday evening (11 October).

According to the Daily Mail, former Huddersfield Town manager Carlos Corberan is not under consideration by Middlesbrough who also find themselves looking for a new manager at the moment.

The news comes just one day after the Daily Mail also suggested that the 51-year-old was on the radar of the Baggies who need a new boss after firing Steve Bruce.

Albion are also keeping an eye on recently-fired Rob Edwards after a very short spell at Watford – no surprises there – with Boro’s sacked head coach Chris Wilder also on the table.

While Ron Gourlay goes through the process of hiring a new manager, Under-21s manager Richard Beale will take the first team reins with help from Gary Walsh and Baggies heroes James Morrison and Chris Brunt.

If Middlesbrough really are out of the race altogether for Corberan as the Daily Mail suggests they are, then West Brom should not have any hesitations in starting negotiations and talks at the very least.

He might not feel like the right fit after a conversation or two but Gourlay can’t sit around and wait for someone to come to him given the club’s current league position.

Managers aren’t going to be queuing out the door for the chance to manage the Baggies right now but enough will be interested for Gourlay to go and make his own moves.

Corberan is possibly the best freely available manager that they could go and get immediately unless they feel Wilder has it in him to drag Albion out of danger.

But having taken Boro down to 21st in the league, that would be a huge risk and they should instead take advantage of the free run they have at the Spaniard.

In other West Brom news, one manager still in a job has also been added to the list and he has taken inspiration from Pep Guardiola in his short coaching career so far.
