West Brom must land Plymouth manager Steven Schumacher

After Steve Bruce’s sacking and a vital three points against Reading, there is certainly a different feel around The Hawthorns after a hectic couple of weeks for West Brom.

The win against the Royals has dragged Albion out of the relegation zone and looking upwards instead of over their shoulders. Remarkably the Baggies are only eight points off the playoffs despite their awful start to the 2022/23 campaign.

There is still a chance for Albion to achieve something this season and that will depend on who takes the vacant manager role at The Hawthorns.

It’s time for a progressive appointment to be made and not a repeat of the managerial merry-go-round that has plagued the club in recent years.

The latest name to be linked with the job is Plymouth manager Steven Schumacher (Alan Nixon, 16 October) and the 38-year-old is exactly the type of manager the Baggies need to be appointing.

Argyle’s boss took the reigns at Home Park after Ryan Lowe’s departure to Preston North End and has taken the Pilgrims to the top of League One. His inventive and dynamic style of play has caught the eye so far this season and could work wonders with the talent that is available at West Brom.

Appointing a manager with a distinguishable playing style who is bold and not afraid to throw caution to the wind is what fans are after.

Looking at a younger manager with EFL experience isn’t a route the Baggies have looked into and considering the number of managerial failures that have at the club, now is the time to change the way appointments are made.

It will be a task to tempt Schumacher away from Devon with Plymouth riding high in League One. However, there is a chance for the club hierarchy to start afresh and make an appointment that will excite fans.
