West Brom now want Steven Schumacher as new first-team manager

West Brom could now switch their attention to Steven Schumacher as they search for a new first-team manager, according to Alan Nixon.

The 38-year-old had been Ryan Lowe’s assistant manager at Plymouth Argyle but when Lowe left Home Park to take the manager’s seat at Preston North End, Schumacher stepped up to the plate.

He has since guided Argyle to the very top of League One after 12 matches with a four-point gap behind them to Ipswich Town and 13 points between themselves and outside of the playoff places.

Richard Beale, West Brom

West Brom are searching for a new manager after sacking Steve Bruce on Monday (10 October) with Richard Beale, the Under-21s head coach, taking caretaker charge away at Reading.

Schumacher, though, might be the man to take Albion into the future and West Brom are unlikely to be put off by what Nixon believes to be a minimal compensation fee that would be owed to Plymouth.

Progressive

Having hired one after another of managerial has-beens, it finally seems to have sunk in for Ron Gourlay that the Baggies need someone at the helm who has a vision for the future.

Not only is attacking football paramount to whoever comes in to replace Bruce, but they also need to have an idea about where the team can go in the short and long term.

West Brom

Schumacher has surely done enough at Home Park to prove that he has all the ingredients necessary to make that step up and provide West Brom with exactly what they need at this time.

Beale did very well in his first game in charge at Reading with a 2-0 win but he does not have the desire to be the senior boss anytime soon so somebody has to be brought in.

Of all the options available, Schumacher is probably the best for current form as well as the potential he has in the future so Gourlay has to go all out and bring him to The Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, The Athletic’s Elias Burke shared what he knows about Beale’s stance on the matter.
