Kevin Campbell calls for change in West Brom ‘direction’ and urges club to consider manager input

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

West Brom are currently searching for a new manager at The Hawthorns, but Kevin Campbell wants to see further action by the club’s board.

Steve Bruce’s dismissal earlier this month triggered an in-depth inspection at West Brom’s board and the running of the club.

Bruce came under fire for his tactical choices and lineups, but the 61-year-old was also let down in the summer when it came to recruitment and investment.

The Baggies are already in pursuit of finding Bruce’s successor, but former Baggies striker Campbell believes that chance is also needed in the board.

Exclusively speaking to West Brom News, Campbell said: “Everything is open for looking at and analysis right now because obviously, the regime hasn’t worked.

“So they need to have a look at what’s going on, what direction they’re going, and obviously with a new manager he’s going to have his say on it as well.

“I think it’s important that the new manager has a say on where they go because a new manager is going to come in and say ‘there’s quality players, look at these experienced players’.

“But it hasn’t worked for a reason so someone has to go in there and figure out why it hasn’t worked.

With West Brom’s current position in the Championship, the club simply cannot afford any more blunders or poor decisions.

The managerial appointment is a huge one, and the club are clearly taking their time to try and pinpoint the perfect candidate.

But it doesn’t matter who comes into the hot seat if he’s not supported by a well-organised board. West Brom need to address that equally as desperately as they do the managerial vacancy.

The new manager coming in will want reinforcements in January and scouting/recruitment has to be on top form to supply him with his targets.

A full-blown rebuild is needed at West Brom, and while that starts with a new manager – it can’t end there.
