West Brom interim boss Richard Beale expects to take Bristol City clash

West Brom are not expected to hire a new first-team manager before they take on Bristol City on Tuesday (18 October), according to The Athletic.

The Robins are due to arrive in the Midlands for the game soon but it won’t be a new man at the helm for the Baggies as Richard Beale now expects to be in charge against Nigel Pearson’s side.

The Under-21s manager got his senior career off to the perfect start away at Reading as Albion ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Matt Phillips and Taylor Gardner-Hickman.

West Brom dragged themselves out of the relegation zone as a result but Beale has no desire to take the role on full-time and the search for a new manager, therefore, continues.

Most recently, Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher has entered the conversation after he guided the Greens to the top of League One following Ryan Lowe’s exit to Preston North End [Alan Nixon]

No rush

Once Steve Bruce was sacked, there might have been some panic within The Hawthorns to find a new manager as soon as possible but that should have all been extinguished by Beale and the performance at Reading.

All of a sudden, the situation doesn’t look so desperate and there is now no dotted line above the Baggies in the league table but that could all soon change in midweek.

Defeat to the Robins would plunge West Brom right back into trouble – not that they are out of it just yet anyway – and that might just spur Ron Gourlay on to make an appointment.

But anything other than defeat should allow him to take his time in finding the right person to not only steer the club to safety or even better this season but lead the way for years to come.

Too often in recent seasons, there have been managers coming and going with alarming frequency and stability is the only thing the club are crying out for right now.

In other West Brom news, one player could be robbing a wage at the moment after being completely left out of the squad at Reading.
