Andy Johnson slams West Brom winger Jed Wallace after Nahki Wells goal for Bristol City

Andy Johnson has slammed Jed Wallace after the West Brom man failed to clear his lines before Nahki Wells 45th minute goal for Bristol City at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies’ summer signing failed to clear the ball on the stroke of halftime and was made to pay as Antoine Semenyo picked out the striker to head City into a 2-0 lead.

Johnson felt Wallace had to do his job in his defensive third after mucking around with the ball in a dangerous area.

Johnson said (20:45, Albion TV, 18 October): “He’s got to get rid of the ball, the tricks are for the other end, when you’re in the defensive third you do your job. You get your body in the way and you go and clear it.

“You can’t muck around there with the ball like that. No one is no near him and it’s a good ball in and finish but you’ve got to clear your lines better than that.”

Key moments

It does feel as if all the key moments are going against West Brom at the moment and now individual mistakes are even creeping into their performances. Wallace had understand the situation and made a better decision. It was the stroke of half time and it was crucial the Baggies only went in one goal down.

At the moment things are not going the right way for the Baggies and the performance against Nigel Pearson’s side was much-like what they produced under Steve Bruce. No real invention going forward and completely running out of ideas towards the end of the game.

West Brom

West Brom simply have to act fast and get a new man in the dugout for their next Championship fixture against Millwall at The Den. Fresh ideas and a new approach are desperately needed with the Baggies now completely predictable.

The longer the club hierarchy wait around the less salvageable, this torrid season becomes for the Baggies.
