Jake Livermore terrible as Conor Townsend stars in defeat: West Brom player ratings v Bristol City
West Brom suffered yet another Championship defeat as Bristol City picked up a 2-0 victory to drag the Baggies back towards the relegation zone.
First-half goals from Nahki Wells and Joe Williams were enough for Nigel Pearson’s men as the Baggies Hawthorns woes continued.
The defeat is Albion’s third defeat in four matches at The Hawthorns and here West Brom News has rated the players out of ten for their performances on Tuesday evening (18 October).

Alex Palmer – 5
Had a difficult moment in the first half when he nearly gifted Wells a goal with a misplaced kick. Potentially could’ve done better with City’s opener but was not to blame for their second goal. An average night for Palmer.
Dara O’Shea – 5
Albion conceded two poor goals in the first half so it’s hard to give any of the centre-backs higher than a five. O’Shea misplaced a couple of passes and allowed Wells to head home unmarked.
Martin Kelly – 4
The veteran had a tough night up against Semenyo and Wells. Needed to react better for both goals. Would like the big defender to have been more of a set-piece threat.
Erik Pieters – 5
Much like Albion’s other two centre-halves, it’s hard to give Pieters more than a five. At a time when goals aren’t flowing for the Baggies, they cannot be giving teams two-goal leads, particularly in the manner they did.
Matt Phillips – 4
Should’ve scored in the first half with a relatively easy chance to level the scores. Opted to go back instead of taking his man on too often. Considering his experience, he needs to stand up and be counted in the big moments.
Jake Livermore – 2
Livermore playing was a waste of time. His early booking sets the tone for the rest of the match and puts his side on the back foot. He also deflected the ball into Joe Williams’ path for City’s opener. Poor night again for Livermore.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman – 7
One of the positives on the night for the Baggies after a promising showing in the centre of midfield. The youngster displayed a good range of passing and added bundles of energy to the Baggies midfield and quality from dead balls. Solid display for Gardner-Hickman.
Conor Townsend – 8 (Man of the Match)
Another positive display from Townsend who was direct and looked to get forward at every chance. Produced some lovely crossfield passes and looked to play progressively. Needed more of his teammates to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Should’ve had an assist in the second half with a brilliant cross for Thomas-Asante.

Jed Wallace – 5
A really poor moment from Wallace for City’s second goal. Had to use his experience and read the situation. Had plenty of good moments going forward which is to be expected.
Brandon Thomas-Asante – 6
Made some clever runs in behind but is still a second or two behind his teammates. Was unlucky not to score in the second half with a header that agonisingly hit the post.
Grady Diangana – 5
Nowhere near as effective as he has been in recent weeks. Cannot be expected to perform at the same high levels every week. Just didn’t quite happen for Diangana against Bristol City.
Substitutes
Jayson Molumby (on for Livermore, 45′) – 5
Reyes Cleary (on for Diangana, 59′) – 5
Tom Rogic (on for Phillips, 59′) – 5
John Swift (on for Gardner-Hickman, 76′) – 4
