Carlos Corberan first manager to complete West Brom interview

West Brom are now in the process of interviewing candidates for their manager’s post with Carlos Corberan the first, according to The Athletic.

The 39-year-old is currently a free agent having been sacked by Olympiakos earlier this season having resigned from his post at Huddersfield Town following their playoff final heartbreak.

The Spaniard, who worked under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United for three years, is the first person to be interviewed for the manager’s role at The Hawthorns but many more are said to be interested.

Ron Gourlay and Ian Pearce are now working their way through a number of applicants for the post with more interviews likely to be conducted in the coming days.

While some are very keen, others have been put off by what is expected to be a very low budget for reinforcements coupled with the current squad and their lengthy contracts.

Don’t panic

It is very encouraging to hear that interviews are now underway for the job and there will be plenty of options to consider which is why Gourlay has to take his time to decide.

With the decision to sack Steve Bruce coming so soon in the season, there are more than enough games for whoever the new boss will be to come in, assess the squad and then start the turnaround without the need to rush the decision.

West Brom

Too many of the recent managers have been short-term plasters to cover the cracks appearing at West Brom but now that it has been torn off, there is no more hiding from it for anybody, not least Gourlay.

Corberan is young enough to have a long career at The Hawthorns if he performs and his previous success at the John Smith’sStadium in the very same league should be enough for Albion to seriously consider him.

Another option could arise and usurp the Spaniard but if he is the man to take charge, then it should be a comfortable run to safety at the very least this season.

In other West Brom news, Steven Schumacher is also on the club’s radar and he has now spoken out about the speculation surrounding him.
