Sky Sports reporter shares update on West Brom search for new manager

West Brom plan to speak to their preferred candidates for the vacant manager’s job “in the next few days”, according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett.

The Baggies sacked Steve Bruce last week and after defeat to Bristol City on Tuesday night planned to “accelerate plans” to hire a new boss, despite not yet finalising a shortlist of candidates to take over.

But in an update to his report from Wednesday morning [19 October], Dorsett says that plans won’t be rushed but there is an awareness of the urgency needed from those in charge.

“Update on this: I’m told West Brom plan to speak to their preferred candidates in the next few days with “a few names” top of their priority list,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“Process won’t be rushed, but hierarchy aware of the urgency.”

About time

This should have been done ages ago, and the fact we’ve allowed two or potentially three games to go past without even making moves to bring people in is appalling.

West Brom are currently in 20th place, one point above the relegation zone of the Championship despite having played a game more than all the teams below them.

For a team who was supposed to be challenging for promotion and looking to get back into the Premier League, it simply isn’t good enough and the running of the club above the football pitch needs to be questioned.

But the good news is that they’ve finally got their act together in this situation and moves are being made, but it seems too little too late.

Another game at the weekend is now likely to be wasted, meaning essentially a third of the season is gone, and another year in the Championship seems inevitable barring a miracle.
