West Brom now consider ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal – Sky Sports News journalist

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal is now being considered by West Brom, according to Pete Graves.

The Sky Sports News journalist claims that Sean Dyche, Carlos Corberan and Wigan manager Leam Richardson are also being looked at by the Baggies, who’ve been in talks with at least 10 candidates to replace Steve Bruce after he was sacked last Monday.

Carvalhal, 56, is currently out of work and is the latest name to be mentioned in the running to be the next West Brom manager.

“Sky Sports are being told that the club has so far spoken to more than 10 possible applicants but are determined to carry out an exhaustive search before making an offer to their chosen option,” said Graves on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (19 October), as shown on the Sky Sports Football Twitter account.

“Carlos Carvalhal, Sean Dyche, Leam Richardson and Carlos Corberan are on the list of managers that Albion have considered recently but clearly, West Brom are going to take their time to try and get the right man.”

Nope

It’ll take too much time to list each club that Carvalhal has managed in his career but the fact that he’s had 20 different managerial posts suggests that he’s not the man for Albion.

West Brom have churned through managers on a near-Watford-like scale in recent years and hiring a managerial journeyman isn’t going to do anything to buck the trend at The Hawthorns.

Carvalhal didn’t do badly at Sheffield Wednesday.

He took them to the play-offs a couple of times, reached a play-off final and won against Arsenal in the League Cup before things started to go wrong for him at Hillsborough.

But his time at Swansea wasn’t great though while his most recent job at Al Wahda in the UAE saw him being sacked just four games into the 2021/22 season.

The Portuguese manager just isn’t what we should be after. We should be in for a manager who can give us years of service, a huge transformation, a promotion and stability in the Premier League.

It’s a lot to ask but expectations are high among a West Brom fanbase who’s seen their club spend the majority of the 21st Century in the top flight.
