West Brom twist emerges as Carlos Carvalhal said not to have an interview

West Brom have not interviewed Carlos Carvalhal to be their new manager despite other reports, according to talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook.

The Express and Star had reported that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss had emerged as a major contender for the vacant role at The Hawthorns after Steve Bruce was sacked.

Carvalhal has also managed Braga and Swansea City in his time but he is currently out in the United Arab Emirates after leaving his latest managerial role.

“Contrary to reports, Carlos Carvalhal has not been interviewed by West Brom and is taking time off after leaving a club in the UAE,” Crook said via his personal Twitter account.

Efforts to hire a new manager are being ramped up but interim boss Richard Beale expects to take the Baggies’ weekend fixture against Millwall and it could be his last with a full week in between games after that.

Lucky break

While a new manager is proving hard to come by for Albion right now, it is actually a very lucky break that they have not interviewed Carvalhal, if Crook’s report is true.

The Portuguese man has not been overly successful anywhere he has gone throughout his career and with the amount of problems at hand with West Brom, there is little encouragement to suggest that would change in the Midlands.

West Brom

As difficult as it might be for Ron Gourlay right now, he has to find somebody who can be in charge for at least two or three years and try to build a proper project at The Hawthorns.

Too many of the recent appointments have been with the vision to immediately jump back up to the Premier League but this group of players are nowhere near good enough for that no matter who is in charge.

West Brom need identity in every sense of the word and they would get none of that if they hired Carvalhal at this stage in the process.

In other West Brom news, The Athletic reported that one interview had already been done with a similar manager to Carvalhal, only younger.
