Kevin Campbell: The league does not lie, West Brom are in a relegation battle
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Campbell firmly believes West Brom are in a relegation battle after enduring a torrid start to an “uncompromising” Championship.
The Baggies currently sit 22nd in the Championship after winning just two of their first 15 games. To make matters worse, both Coventry and Huddersfield beneath them boast games in hand.
It’s a dire scenario for West Brom to be in, and former striker Campbell didn’t have to think twice before insisting the Baggies are caught up in a fight for survival.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “The Championship is uncompromising. You think ‘well we’re alright’, but you’re not alright in that division.
“Are West Brom in a relegation battle at the moment? Yes, they are, because the league does not lie.
“They have to get themselves a manager – when the time is right – and they have to get themselves moving up that league, that’s what they have to do.
“There are too many good players and too good of a squad to be where they are – but they are where they are.
“Someone has to get a grip of that dressing room. The new manager has to get a grip of that dressing room because the players are underachieving.
“So yes, they are in a relegation battle right now.“

It’d be naive to suggest that the Baggies aren’t in the midst of a relegation fight right now. While they clearly have a squad worthy of battling for play-off places, they’re hugely underperforming and are drained of confidence after a run of awful results.
Things could quickly turn around with a new manager and an injection of excitement at The Hawthorns, but it’s no guarantee.
The West Brom squad should definitely be taking the threat of relegation seriously after an awful start to the league campaign, as Campbell is right – the Championship is scarily unpredictable.
