West Brom want to sign Jerry Yates in January transfer window

West Brom have sent scouts to watch Blackpool striker Jerry Yates ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report in The Sun [23 October].

The Baggies have had a nightmare season so far, sitting in 23rd place in the Championship with just two wins from 16 games as they battle against relegation in a season where they were supposed to challenge for promotion.

But while the club search for a new manager after sacking Steve Bruce, they seem to be planning for the January transfer window after sending a scout to watch Championship top scorer Yates.

West Brom

West Brom were reportedly one of ten clubs, including Champions League side Rangers and Premier League clubs Bournemouth and Brentford checking the 25 year old out.

It’s believed that Blackpool would be open to a January deal for around £5m, with the player having a contract that runs out in 2024.

No chance

West Brom don’t have £5m to spend on a striker in January while we’re battling for our lives in the Championship, so this is immediately a non-starter for us.

But with that said, it’s crazy that the club are doing this without a manager in place because what happens if the manager doesn’t want him?

The priorities of the club are completely wrong right now, with a manager needed to steer this club in the right direction and move us away from danger before we start looking at splashing the cash.

The owner needs to pay back the loan he took from the club and then we can start thinking about how to spend the money in the right areas of the squad to make us better.

Yates would be a good addition, but right now it simply isn’t a realistic option for us and fans shouldn’t get too excited about it any time soon.
