West Brom could announce new manager on Monday as Carlos Corberan closes in

West Brom could announce their new manager before the end of Monday with the search “close to concluding”, according to Joe Chapman.

Carlos Corberan appears to be the man set for the hot seat at the Hawthorns as the club looks to rescue the situation following the miserable Steve Bruce reign, and with interim boss Richard Beale’s new manager bounce only lasting a game.

The former Huddersfield coach’s appointment is “almost done” according to Guillem Balague earlier on Monday (24 October) and the maximum amount of time with his players before Sheffield United on Saturday (29 October) is now the aim.

Writing on his Twitter account on Monday afternoon Birmingham Live’s Chapman said: “Albion are close to concluding their managerial search. Could be an announcement today, but not necessarily.

“Ideal situation is that CC gets as much time as possible on the training pitch with the players before SUFC on Saturday.”

Time is of the essence

The Baggies absolutely need to move quickly now if they have settled on who they want to hand the job to in order to reverse the direction of travel.

Despite a concerning flop in Greece with Olympiacos earlier this season Corberan is a man with the most recent experience possible of reaching the Championship play offs.

It is true that he lost in the final but it was a game that many felt Huddersfield were good enough to win, so if he can come anywhere close to that this season with West Brom it likely would be considered a success.

The Baggies will avoid paying compensation by going for the 39-year-old Spanish coach, something that was apparently a key part of their thinking.

As recently as six months ago he would have been seen as a stellar appointment but his stock has understandably fallen since he left the Terriers and failed in Europe.

Corberan will have a major job on his hands at the Hawthorns as it is still just two victories all season, and should his old side Huddersfield win their game in hand it would leave the Baggies bottom of the table as November approaches and in a perilous position.

In other West Brom news, the club have been told they can emulate Steve Cooper last season and still make the play offs this year with a fast appointment.
