Finance Expert: Really poor from West Brom as shareholders kept in the dark yet again

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...

Dan Plumley has insisted that it looks really poor as West Brom are keeping their shareholders in the dark over the creation of a new holding company Fairway Trust.

The Finance Expert admitted it was completely bizarre with the damage being caused by Guochuan Lai and the current board nearly becoming “irreparable.”

It was first reported by the Daily Mail (14th October) that the 430 shareholders who own the remaining 12% of the club outside of Lai have been left “enraged.”

“That’s a really tricky one,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“It just looks really poor form from the outside in, especially at a time where we know wider football conversations are being had at bringing more fans into it from having a say and more of a look at board structures and the fan-led review.

“When you have that narrative and everything we’ve seen in the background from bad examples where it really goes wrong, and West Brom have had absolutely loads of that stuff gone on behind the scenes in recent years with the ownership structure and what they’ve done.

“This is just another one where you look at it and think that’s really, really poor. It almost becomes irreparable damage the more you do so that’s just another thing for the fans to say ‘what the hell are these owners doing at our football club?’ and it’s just completely bizarre.”

How much longer will this keep going on at The Hawthorns?

With the unpaid loans and developments such as this, there is only so much more the fans and other shareholders can take before it becomes too much.

The Albion is being torn apart it seems, and there is nothing anyone can do to sort it as this calamitous reign continues under the stewardship of Lai.
