Simon Jordan labels West Brom appointment of Carlos Corberan ‘strange’

Simon Jordan has criticised West Brom for appointing Carlos Corberan as their new manager and says “something is wrong” at the club.

The Baggies finally confirmed the appointment of the former Huddersfield and Olympiacos manager late on Tuesday night, having sacked Steve Bruce over two weeks ago with the club in the relegation zone.

But while speaking on talkSPORT [26 October, 12:06], Jordan branded the appointment as “strange” after he was recently sacked following just ten games in charge of one of the top clubs in Greece.

West Brom

“It’s interesting isn’t it,” he said. “You’ve got a guy who has taken a team out of the Championship and knows what a Championship manager looks like in Marinakis, who’s the owner of Olympiacos, who has just sacked him [Corberan] from Olympiacos, because he’s not doing a particularly good job there, and he lands at West Bromwich Albion in an environment that doesn’t seem to know whether it’s Arthur or Martha.

“From Darren Moore, to Valerien Ismael, to Steve Bruce. They’ve had a group of managers, they’ve mixed it up and changed it up, all of them have disappointed. So there’s something wrong at West Bromwich Albion.

“Because I look at this appointment as a strange one. Okay he did well last time around at Huddersfield, but I look at it now and say that he’s coming off an 18% win record with Olympiacos into a perceived big club in the Championship.”

Poor

The club clearly had absolutely no idea about who they would look to when it came to replacing Bruce because they had no intention of letting him go until the fans made his position untenable.

But in Corberan they have brought someone in with a proven record in the Championship after taking Huddersfield within a whisker of the Premier League last season.

West Brom

Judging him based off his tiny spell at Olympiacos under an owner known for making wild and rash decision, like signing 23 players in one transfer window, is hardly a stick to beat him with.

He has barely even taken over a training session yet and already has the pack of wolves disguised as the media waiting to take a bite out of him.

The fans must stay united and ensure that he is given the club’s full backing between now and the end of the season, with the hope that he can move us away from this relegation battle we’ve found ourselves in and back towards a promotion push.
