West Brom told to ‘get moving’ after lack of urgency over Carlos Corberan appointment

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

It took West Brom over two weeks to appoint Carlos Corberan as Steve Bruce’s successor – Kevin Campbell now believes there’s no time to spare.

The Baggies find themselves in the relegation zone after picking up just 14 points from 16 games this season. Corberan has been brought in to fix the mess, but the clock is ticking.

West Brom

The Spaniard was announced as the new West Brom boss late on Tuesday and will take charge of the side for the first time on Saturday when Sheffield United travel to The Hawthorns.

With points desperately needed if the club are to escape the drop zone, former Baggies striker Campbell has called for urgency.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “There’s still a lot of football to be played, that’s one thing we do know.

“But the quicker the new man came in the quicker he can get to work. Waiting around with a break coming, they are in a perilous position now.

“West Brom want to be at the top end of the league so there’s no time for messing around, there’s no time for holding back.

Get moving.”

West Brom

Campbell is right, West Brom’s current position piles pressure on Corberan early so the Spaniard will need a quick start if the Baggies are to quickly climb their way out of danger.

The club did take their time on the appointment and will have their fingers crossed that they made the right call. Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett did claim that Corberan’s announcement took longer than usual due to legal delays, but the board still took their time making the decision.

During the hiring process, the Baggies dropped another six points through losses to Bristol City and Millwall. For the board’s sake, they better hope that those points aren’t needed at the end of the season.
