Adrian Clarke fires West Brom warning after appointment of Carlos Corberan
Adrian Clarke has suggested Carlos Corberan is “no miracle worker” after the Spaniard was named as Steve Bruce’s West Brom successor.
The Baggies confirmed the appointment of the 39-year-old on Wednesday (26 October) to end their long-winded search for a new boss.
However, analyst and presenter Clarke highlights that Corberan has only just been sacked by Olympiacos after leaving Huddersfield.
Talking on talkSPORT 2 (26 October), he said: “I think he’s a good tactician, but it has to be pointed out that since leaving Huddersfield, he took the Olympiacos job and has been sacked already. So he’s no miracle worker but based on the body of work from Huddersfield, he’s decent appointment and will surely improve them.”
Better than Bruce
At this point, Corberan won’t have to do much to improve the Baggies from the Bruce era. West Brom currently only sit above Huddersfield in the table, so it’s going to be hard for the Spaniard to really make things worse at The Hawthorns.
His time at Olympiacos is concerning, particularly after his successful time at Huddersfield, but it’s important to remember that the Greek side’s owner Evangelos Marinakis (who also owns Nottingham Forest) is prone to pulling the trigger from time to time. Corberan’s time with the Terriers indicates that he needs time to implement his way of thinking at The Hawthorns.

Things didn’t go to plan straight away in Yorkshire, but after he was given time he managed to lead Huddersfield to the brink of Premier League football.
West Brom were certainly patient with Bruce and there must be patience from the fans towards the Spaniard if things aren’t plane sailing – and anyone who knows Albion knows it’s unlikely to be.
