Carlos Corberan shares his verdict on West Brom fans after appointment

Carlos Corberan has outlined his key objectives for West Brom after being announced as the team’s new head coach on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old Spaniard, who succeeds Steve Bruce at The Hawthorns has been without a club since leaving Greek giants Olympiakos in September.

Corberan confessed his admiration for the “powerful” fans at the Hawthorns and his eagerness to reconnect with disenchanted Albion supporters.

“For me it’s important to start to make these first steps immediately, to start to show what we want to do as a team,” said Corberan as quoted by the Express and Star.

“Defend how we want to defend, attack how we want to attack. Of course, everyone needs some time to develop these ideas, but they are one part of the emotional aspects, emotional values, passion and determination that is important to show from the first moment.

“Every time as a coach I’ve been here I felt something different when you’re playing at The Hawthorns.

“You can feel how big it is, you can feel the fans and how they back the team. They make the stadium very difficult to play in, I’ve always had that feeling with West Bromwich Albion and the fans that they have – it’s a really powerful club.”

Finally.

West Brom finally seems to be moving in the right direction and Corberan brings a new positive enthusiasm with him to The Hawthorns.

Corberan is exactly the kind of coach fans have been craving to get, he’s tough, tactical and will get the players in some serious shape.

The Spaniard flourished under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United and will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Baggies.

Hopefully, the new head coach will look to promote more youth in the team, too many senior Albion squad members are sitting around doing nothing at the moment.

Getting out of the dreaded relegation zone needs to be the first point of call, then the team can start focusing on bigger ambitions.

Ron Gourlay did something right for once by the looks of things, that’s not to say he’s off the hook yet, his prolonged eagerness to keep Steve Bruce at the club still burns deep.

In other West Brom news, the Spaniard could be set to make some major changes behind the scenes at The Hawthorns presuming he gets his way.
