West Brom players urged not to think ahead of Carlos Corberan Albion bow

Carlos Corberan won’t have an easy start to life as West Brom manager as they welcome high-flying Sheffield United to The Hawthorns.

The Blades have been in terrific form this season while the Baggies are in the exact opposite camp having dropped to 23rd in the division, just above Huddersfield (Corberan’s former team).

Ally Robertson is very excited for the Spaniard to take the reins of the first team but he has urged players that they have to follow his philosophy to be successful.

West Brom

“When you have a new manager come in you have to prove you are worth a place,” Robertson said to the Express and Star.

“Corberan will bring his staff in and James Morrison and Gary Walsh have been kept on. As long as the coaches follow the new gaffer’s ways they will be alright. They can’t think about doing it their way – they’ve got to follow the manager.”

Irrelevant result

Despite the truly dire situation West Brom currently find themselves in, whether they get three points, one or none on Saturday (29 October) is fairly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Sheffield United will be expected to take all three points back to Yorkshire with them purely based on the league table but for the Baggies, they need to get the crowd behind them again.

The end of Steve Bruce’s era seemed more like the team against the fans at times with a number of poor performances seeing The Hawthorns become a very toxic place.

But a united front is all that needs to be seen against the Blades and if the performance is one that gets the fans excited and loud, regardless of the result, it will be a huge improvement.

From game two, however, Corberan will have to start picking up points at a consistent rate to start and drag themselves away from the relegation zone and closer to where they should have been all along.

In other West Brom news, one player who could thrive under the Spaniard is excelling out on loan elsewhere in the Football League.
