West Brom: BBC pundit hails ‘terrific’ Carlos Corberan with one issue to solve

Carlos Corberan was just moments away from taking Huddersfield Town back to the Premier League and he could do the same with West Brom.

That is the opinion of BBC pundit Carlton Palmer who believes that if the Spaniard can fix one major issue with the Baggies’ squad then they could surge up the Championship table.

Corberan’s first game in charge of West Brom will be at home to Sheffield United on Saturday (29 October) where he will hope to drag the club above the 23rd place they currently sit.

West Brom

“You always find with a new manager coming in, generally, there is an upturn in the club’s fortunes, then things level out,” Palmer said to Football League World.

“They want to impress the new manager and results tend to improve, so we’ll have to see, a manager needs time to implement his ideas, he needs time for the players to adjust to how he wants to play.

“Corberan did a terrific job at Huddersfield, a good squad and a good team, I think he’s also got that at West Brom, lacking a goalscorer for sure, if they can address that: who knows what can happen for the rest of the season?”

Too soon

He’s not managed one game yet and here Palmer is possibly hinting that promotion is on the cards.

While it might have worked for Nottingham Forest last season, they had an owner with huge pockets and plenty of loan players brought in to help the few decent talents already at the club.

West Brom

West Brom simply don’t have players of the quality of Brennan Johnson to call upon and score the necessary goals to get the club anywhere near the playoffs.

A mid-table finish might be the very best Albion can hope for this season and even then they might have to be looking over their shoulder for much of the campaign.

January could be a huge month for the future of the Baggies with Corberan finally getting a chance to make some transfer moves in and more importantly an opportunity to sell the deadwood that has been holding the club back for years.

In other West Brom news, the new boss is set to hold internal talks with CEO Ron Gourlay soon as was revealed at a press conference on Thursday (27 October).
