Charlie Austin shares reaction as West Brom suffer loss v Sheffield United
Charlie Austin has suggested that the current West Brom team is an “absolute shadow” of the side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2019-20.
The new head coach Carlos Corberan began his reign horribly after the relegation-threatened Baggies suffered a 2-0 defeat at home.
Two goals in the first half from Blades strikers Iliman Ndiaye and Oli McBurnie earned all three points, although the performance improved in the second half.
Via Twitter, Austin wrote: “West Brom look an absolute shadow of what they were in 19/20 champ season.”
Spot on
Austin was part of the West Brom side that secured promotion to the Premier League.
The 33-year-old striker spent two seasons at the Hawthorns. In his first season, he scored 11 goals in all competitions.
The Baggies are in real trouble here. While one should not expect Corberan to fix all problems quickly, the results at the moment are deeply hurting.

West Brom have managed just one win in their last 12 games, and the performances are nowhere near acceptable.
Conor Townsend and Darnell Furlong were absolutely shocking during the game, as individual errors keep cropping up, which only indicates that the confidence in the side is very low at the moment.
Jake Livermore, the Baggies skipper, was another player who was very poor on the day, and he was taken in the 60th minute.
The same can be said about Karlan Grant and Jed Wallace, both were ineffective against the Blades.
The misery doesn’t look to end anytime soon.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has taken inspiration from his former mentor to bring a regime across from Leeds United to the Midlands.
