ITV pundit hits out at Carlos Corberan ‘misuse’ of Jedd Wallace in West Brom defeat to Sheffield United

Sam Parkin believes Carlos Coberan misused Jed Wallace in his first match as West Brom manager as the Baggies suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

Two first-half goals from Paul Heckingbottom’s side were enough to condemn Albion to yet another defeat and sink them to the bottom of the Championship table.

Parkin feels Corberan didn’t quite get the best out of Wallace after experimenting with him in different positions during the defeat.

“Jed Wallace was probably misused today in a number ten off the wide position and then played centrally, so he will have to get the best out of him,” said Parkin (ITV highlights, 06:19 29 October).

Big player

There is absolutely no way that Wallace should be in a team which is fighting relegation from the second tier. In fact, he should be part of a side trying to get out of it. If West Brom wish to harbour any hopes of getting out of the demise they’re currently in, they must get the best out of the former Millwall man.

He can unlock defences at will and if used correctly, he could be the catalyst for an uptick in form for the Baggies. Corberan will take time to work out his best eleven and formation that he wishes to play, and when he does, we could begin to see the best of Wallace once again.

For now, up until the World Cup break, ensuring he gets some points on the board has to be the main aim of the Spaniard. With Blackpool, Stoke, and Queen’s Park Rangers to come, things don’t get any easier for West Brom, who must ensure they don’t get cut adrift at the bottom of the table.
