Kevin Campbell makes West Brom prediction as ‘perfect’ World Cup break is set to benefit Carlos Corberan

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Carlos Corberan suffered defeat to Sheffield United in his first West Brom outing, but Kevin Campbell believes he needs the World Cup break to truly teach his methods.

West Brom sit bottom of the Championship after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Sheffield United, but Campbell insists things will improve under Corberan.

The Spaniard was in the dugout for the first time on Saturday and will be thrown right back into action on Tuesday night as the Baggies face Blackpool at The Hawthorns.

Campbell says it’s essential that the new West Brom coach has time to coach his players, and says that the upcoming World Cup break is a “perfect” opportunity to do just that.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “It’s a tough result, but considering how they played it was a lot tighter than they get credit for.

“It’s going to take a little bit of time. He [Corberan] has to get his methods across and there’s still a long way to go in the season. He has a lot of work to do.

But the World Cup break is going to be perfect for West Brom. The manager is going to be able to work with the players day in day out, and I think you’ll see a better West Bromwich Albion after the World cup.

“They need to be better.

Corberan’s aim will be to just guide his side through to the World Cup break with as many points as possible, and then the Spaniard can start drilling his style of play into the squad.

It’ll also provide an opportunity for him to identify any weaknesses in his squad and plan for the upcoming January transfer window.

Blackpool sit 15th and so Corberan will fancy his chances of picking up points, but The Seasiders will also be confident after picking up back-to-back victories.

Following that, West Brom face an extremely difficult challenge against high-flying QPR. Corberan will be counting the days until the World Cup break begins.
