West Brom must axe Karlan Grant for Brandon Thomas-Asante in Championship clash v Blackpool

Carlos Corberan needs to make the big calls and that could be dropping Karlan Grant for West Brom v Blackpool after his performance against Sheffield United.

The 25-year-old has been a mainstay for the Baggies this season and has played in 16 out of 17 Championship games for them.

However, his performances have been woeful as he’s managed to find the back of the net on just three occasions thus far.

Against the Blades over the weekend, the Baggies lost 2-0 despite creating more chances and seeing the lion’s share of possession.

That’s because they looked tame in the final third and a lot of it had to do with Grant not finding himself in space to receive the ball and get others into the game.

Throughout the 90 minutes he was on the pitch, the striker managed to complete just 16 passes which is quite staggering. [Sofascore]

He even missed the one and only big chance the Baggies had on the night and lost 75 per cent of his attempted aerial duels.

It could be time for Corberan to trust Brandon Thomas-Asante right from the start as the 23-year-old was impressive after coming off the bench against the Blades.

While he missed a good chance to score, it says a lot about his movement as he found himself in the right areas despite being on the field for less than 10 minutes.

Dropping Grant would also send a message to the dressing room that nobody is guaranteed of a place in the eleven and it’s a pure meritocracy at the Hawthorns.
