Application for Hawthorns community asset now with council in major West Brom update

Councillor Les Trumpeter has revealed that an application for the West Brom stadium to become a community asset is with the local council.

The Hawthorns has been the subject of support from fans as owner Guochuan Lai looks to take out a £25million loan in order for Carlos Corberan to have a January transfer budget.

Supporters are worried that the stadium could be sold in order to help cover some of the costs of the £25million and have moved to protect the future of the ground.

“After raising the matter at full council on 26th July 2022, I am pleased to announce that an application to list The Hawthorns as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) is now with Sandwell Council,” Trumpeter said via his personal Twitter account.

“This is a large step towards protecting the West Brom stadium and I trust Sandwell Council will now utilise its full powers and fast-track this application given the urgency.

“Many thanks to Leigh Kent (Vice Chair) of the S4A group who has worked tirelessly on this matter.”

Fan power

Whatever Lai might have been planning with this eye-watering loan will have to get past the courageous supporters of West Brom and it isn’t going to work.

The combined power of football supporters has never been beaten by an owner before and it will never happen because no matter what happens, the diehard football fan is still absolutely critical to the future of clubs.

Trumpeter is proving to be a man of the people in backing this movement when he could have very easily let it develop on its own and potentially not to the supporters’ liking.

In such difficult times at The Hawthorns, the last thing Lai or anybody connected to West Brom needs is for the stadium to be sold and then have to pay rent to continue playing there on a regular basis.

All fingers will now be crossed that this application is granted and the future of The Hawthorns can be secured.

In other West Brom news, Carlton Palmer thinks something could happen with this Championship hotshot as the Baggies remain in the hunt to sign him.
