West Brom-linked Jerry Yates ‘making a lot of noise’ amid £5m report

West Brom have been badly lacking a true goal-scorer so far this season and they are reportedly on the hunt to sign Blackpool’s Jerry Yates.

The Sun reported on 23 October that Baggies scouts had made the pilgrimage to Bloomfield Road to take a close look at the 25-year-old who has scored nine times so far this season.

In that report, Yates is said to be valued at £5million but BBC pundit Carlton Palmer believes that is far too low for somebody in such good form.

West Brom

It’s a little bit on the low side for sure,” he said to Football League World. “But he’s no proven experience of top-flight football. He wasn’t prolific last year in the Championship.

“However, he was prolific in League one the year before, scoring 20 goals. So, you know, he’s making a lot of noise at the moment. Nine goals in 16 games, he’s providing assists and he’s playing very, very well.

“10 Scouts have gone to watch him, so for me, it seems that something’s bound to happen.”

Lively

He may not have made a great deal of noise at The Hawthorns on Tuesday evening (1 November) as West Brom ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Okay Yokuslu but that should not put Albion off a move.

West Brom

Every striker has games where they can’t quite hit the sweet spot and that was one of Yates’ but they come far less often for the Seasiders’ talisman than it seems to for Karlan Grant and Brandon Thomas-Asante.

£5million actually seems like a big amount for a Championship player but if the Baggies have true ambitions of moving up the league table then they have to spend money to do so.

They tried to be considered with their cash in the summer, which they were forced into, and it has miserably failed bar perhaps Jed Wallace and John Swift.

They both need a lively striker who can run all day ahead of them to get the best out of them as well so if £5million is what it will take then £5million it will have to be.

In other West Brom news, Nigel Quashie was delighted to see his former side pick up three crucial points against the Tangerines and praised one key factor in the win.
