Karlan Grant must improve performance as West Brom eye Blackpool striker Jerry Yates

Karlan Grant did not enjoy his finest hour for West Brom in Albion’s 1-0 victory over Blackpool in Carlos Corberan’s second game in charge of the club.

The former Huddersfield man still looks devoid of confidence in front of goal and was sarcastically cheered off when he was substituted in the second half.

It’s unclear who Corberan will trust to lead the line in the future, with the Spaniard not afraid to haul underperforming players off the pitch, as he did with Jed Wallace against the Tangerines. At the moment, Grant is playing almost by default due to him being the only striker available with any real Championship experience.

With the January window approaching, the Baggies will be looking for reinforcements, and many fans will be hoping for a striker to be near the top of West Brom’s wish list.

It’s been reported by The Sun [23 October] that the Baggies have sent scouts to watch Blackpool’s in-form striker Jerry Yates. Although he couldn’t get on the scoresheet at The Hawthorns, Yates has been in electric form in the 2022/23 season and is currently the top scorer in the Championship.

West Brom

Grant is contracted to the club until the summer of 2026, but news of the Baggies looking at a proven Championship marksman should be an indication of their disappointment in his performance.

On Tuesday against Blackpool, Grant looked reluctant to make runs and get into goalscoring positions, and on the odd occasion he did his finishing was tame and didn’t threaten the keeper.

With the Baggies actively looking to improve their forward options, the ball is now in Grant’s court to show he is worth the big fee West Brom paid Huddersfield for his services.

In other West Brom news, Chris Lepkowski has addressed rumours of the Baggies going into administration after what happened recently.
