West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu named in Championship Team of the Week
West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu has been named in the Championship team of the week, for his heroic performance against Blackpool.
The defensive midfielder struck late in Tuesday’s must-win clash, giving his new boss Carlos Corberan his first three points as Albion boss.
Yokuslu was given a masterly match rating of 8.39 for his outstanding performance by the football statistics website WhoScored.
The 28-year-old signed a permanent deal at The Hawthorns this summer, returning to the club after a memorable loan spell during the 2020/2021 Premier League season.
Despite this, the Turkey international has suffered a slow start to the Championship campaign, but this may be down to the role he was playing last season.
During a loan spell at Spanish side Getafe, the defensive midfielder was being used and played in a back three, something which may have thrown him off his stride when he moved back to the West Midlands.
Thriving.
Yokuslu was immensely good in Tuesday evening’s win over Blackpool and it seems new Baggies boss Corberan may be able to get the best out of him.
This bodes well for the rest of the season, Albion’s engine room has looked poor and out of ideas at times so far this season.
Yokuslu was a headline summer recruit and fans were hoping he’d be showing this kind of form early doors, he needs to push on from here now.
He could prove to be a vital cog in anything the team does well and maybe it was his change in position that caused him to get off to a slow start.
The Blackpool performance was his best spell to date in a Baggies shirt and perhaps a shot of Corberan’s confidence was all he needed to thrive.
Whatever the case may be, it was nice to see the Turk performing at the level fans knew he could compete at, long may it continue.
