Sky Sports pundit: January spending not necessary, lack of goals at West Brom is not a concern

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

West Brom sit 22nd in the Championship and have only scored 22 goals this season, but Kevin Campbell insists the Baggies don’t need to buy a new striker.

Carlos Corberan has made a superb start to life at West Brom and has recorded back-to-back wins after Saturday’s 1-0 win over QPR.

However, the Baggies still look wasteful up front and have scored just three goals in their last five. Despite the lack of goals though, Kevin Campbell insists a new striker shouldn’t be on the club’s agenda in January.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “Corberan is going to bring his style of football to the club.

“You can’t say that there are not players there [at West Brom] who know how to score in the Championship because they’ve done it before.

“So I think you have to believe in your ability as a manager and believe in the coaching and that you’ve obviously got players there who can score goals.

“Going out and signing someone else when you might have somebody in the building, I think you’ve got to give them a chance.

“They can all work. Looking at West Brom’s squad, there’d be many managers willing to work with them.”

To make matters worse at West Brom, Karlan Grant is sidelined with injury. Daryl Dike is set to return to give the Baggies more firepower, but there’s still a lack of an out-and-out striker at the club.

Spending in January will definitely be necessary to help Corberan build the squad he desires, but investing in the forward line might be towards the bottom of his priority list.
