West Brom win v QPR leaves Richie Anderson delighted on Twitter

West Brom nearly hauled themselves out of the relegation zone on Saturday (5 November) with a slender 1-0 win away at Queens Park Rangers.

Kyle Bartley scored the only goal of the game in the second half by rising highest to meet a delicious cross from John Swift and the Baggies held on to the final whistle.

They are now just a point away from Hull City in 21st and safety from the drop to League One with just a home game against Stoke City to go before the World Cup break.

It wasn’t just Carlos Corberan and the travelling Albion contingent who were overjoyed at their win at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium as Strictly Come Dancing star Richie Anderson proved.

“What a result!!! 2 in 2 for Carlos. Boing Boing,” the BBC radio presenter said via his personal Twitter account as the full-time whistle blew in the capital.

On a roll

Corberan might not have the free-flowing attacking football on point just yet but he has made West Brom incredibly tough to beat and that makes a huge difference in tight games.

As Bartley proved against QPR, it only takes one moment of quality to find the back of the net and when the defence is as solid as it was, Michael Beale’s side were always going to find it tough to score.

It will be interesting to see how Corberan can adapt to going behind in games as they could well do so at some stage and then having to score twice could prove a problem.

Sheffield United showed how easy it can be to get on top of the Baggies from an early stage in the Spaniard’s first game in charge and many sides will be looking at that and trying to replicate it.

But Corberan learns very quickly and the same techniques put into practice by the Blades won’t necessarily work every time.
