Boost for West Brom as Tom Rogic left out of Australia squad for World Cup 2022
Australia have announced their 26-man squad for the World Cup and they have left out West Brom midfielder Tom Rogic.
The news will come as a personal blow for Rogic, as the Atheltic journalist Elias Burke has rightly noted that it would be “heartbreaking” for him.
The news will be greeted by the Baggies fans. He can use this World Cup break to take enough rest and work on his full fitness which will only benefit the team this season.
Elias wrote on Twitter: “Wow, no Tom Rogic.
“Good news for Albion as he’ll have the WC break to get up to full fitness and work with Corberan, but heartbreaking for the 53-cap international who should be a star player for the Socceroos.”
Boost
Rogic could have been a star at this edition of the World Cup but he was overlooked by Graham Arnold.
The 29-year-old central midfielder joined the Baggies in the summer and has played only a peripheral role so far, mostly due to fitness issues.
He has made only one league start so far, while a further four have come from the bench. He has picked up one assist as well.
Despite his underwhelming contribution for the club, many had expected that he would still be on the plane for Qatar. He has been a regular member of the side and has made 53 appearances for his country, scoring 10 goals.

Rogic hasn’t played for his country since 1 February and his omission probably doesn’t come as a big surprise.
This could be a blessing in disguise for West Brom. Rogic can now focus on full recovery and spend time working with the new boss, Carlos Corberan.
He is a vastly experienced player who has had huge success at Celtic. He can play a massive role for the club in the second half of the campaign if he stays fit.
In other West Brom news, Chris Lepkowski has addressed rumours of the Baggies going into administration after what happened recently.
