Davie Selke submits transfer request after West Brom transfer move

Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke has handed in a transfer request after summer interest from the likes of West Brom, according to Bild.

Sky Sports Germany reported (1 September, 07:43am) that Albion were looking to make a deadline day move for the 27-year-old striker.

German news outlet Bild now suggest (8 November) that Selke has now expressed his desire to leave the Bundesliga club. It’s understood the Hertha could save around £2.6million on his salary if they opted to let him leave.

West Brom

Rangers, FC Basel and FC Copenhagen have all previously expressed interest in the want away forward.

Needed

A striker is desperately needed at The Hawthorns in January with Karlan Grant’s current form still leaving a lot to be desired. Daryl Dike is close to returning but he cannot be expected to shoulder all of responsiblility for Carlos Corberan’s side.

One Bundesliga goal and one assist are hardly prolific numbers from the German striker in the 2022/23 season. Things weren’t much better last season with only five goals scored. However, at 6 feet 3 inches the striker clearly offers a lot more than scoring goals. Being a target man and bringing his teammates into the equation is a large part of Selke’s game.

West Brom

With the likes of Rangers and FC Basel looking at the forward, it won’t be an easy deal for Albion to pull off should they wish to and there’s also a good chance Corberan won’t have the 27-year-old near the top of his priorities. The Spaniard will have his own transfer targets who he feels are better suited to the system he wants to adopt.

Baggies fans will be hoping for a busy winter window to really ease any growing fears of a relegation battle.
