Kevin Campbell waxes lyrical about Carlos Corberan impact at West Brom, admits one thing ‘came too soon’
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Carlos Corberan has made an immediate impact at West Brom, picking up back-to-back wins over Blackpool and QPR.
Corberan arrived at the Hawthorns with West Brom at the bottom of the Championship, but the Spaniard has already picked up six points in his first three matches – including an impressive 1-0 victory over QPR last Saturday.
The Baggies still sit 22nd in the league, but there’s certainly a more optimistic feeling around the club since his arrival.

Ex-West Brom striker Kevin Campbell heaped praise onto Corberan for his immediate impact, but admitted that his very first match against Sheffield United probably came too soon for him.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “He’s getting that dressing room on board. Corberan is getting the players together and focused.
“I know he lost his first game but maybe that came too soon for him to get his ideas across.
“Now that the team is starting to understand what he wants, we’re seeing them perform.
“A clean sheet, beating QPR who are flying. It’s the Championship and anything can happen down there but listen – this guy knows how to win.“

Campbell is certainly right about one thing – Corberan knows how to win in the Championship. After taking over a side extremely low on confidence, his coaching and game plan instilled enough belief in this side to cause a major upset away from home at QPR.
It was a real turning point for the Baggies, who a few weeks ago would’ve wilted in that same situation. With a World Cup break approaching, Corberan will only have more time to implement his ideas to his squad.
